Frequently Asked Questions

In public affairs work, questions inevitably arise. Most can be answered from information on this site. Any other questions should be referred to the appropriate mulitstake, national or area director of public affairs, or to the appropriate public affairs priesthood adviser. Below are answers to some of the most frequently asked questions with links to related information:

1. Mormon Helping Hands vests and T-shirts are costly and time consuming to make. Are they available through the Church?

Yes. Your stake clerk can order them from Church Distribution Services (www.ldscatalog.com or call from the U.S. 1-800-537-5001).

Vests are the most versatile, easy on and off, and adaptable to different sized people. One-size-fits-all and US$3.50 each

T-shirts are safer in some instances, like while using a chain saw and other power equipment. Available in sizes s-3XL and US$3.75 each

For more information review the Mormon Helping Hands Guidelines or read this article that explains the program in more detail.

2. Meetinghouse open houses can be a good way to invite a community to learn more about the Church. How do we organize an open house?

A well-planned, priesthood-directed meetinghouse open house can do much to build relationships with leaders and members of a local community. A new set of guidelines for planning and hosting an open house can be found on the Public Affairs Web site under Public Affairs Programs.

3. We need some displays for an event we are holding. Where can we order them?

It is no longer practical for Church Public Affairs to provide displays for local events. However, resources such as photos, videos and music are available in the resource section to help you develop your own displays.Templates for various displays will be added over time. Excellent large-sized pictures on many gospel subjects are also available through Church Distribution Services, www.ldscatalog.com.

4. What are the official guidelines for using the Church logo?

A video found in the Copyrights and Trademarks section of this web site will answer your questions about using the Church logo.

5. How careful do public affairs councils have to be about copyright issues?

Very careful! Public Affairs councils must follow the proper guidelines to help protect the Church’s copyrights and trademarks and not violate the intellectual property rights of others. For more details watch the video on respecting and protecting copyrights.

6. Is it all right to create our own public affairs or event-specific Web site?

No. Only official Church sites (such as LDS.org and Mormon.org), ward and stake sites, and country and area sites are approved. No other Church Web sites are authorized.

7. Is funding available from Church headquarters for local public affairs projects?

No. All funding for local public affairs projects should come from units in your local area. In some situations it may be appropriate for the area public affairs council to contribute to a project with area-wide implications. This decision will need to be considered by the priesthood advisers assigned to the respective councils involved. More information about funding for public affairs work can be found through this article.
